Our penny floor in the kitchen. Start to finish in a little over a week. We used liquid nails from a caulking tube. Just spread it out with a small adhesive spreader. Used an unsanded grout. Then sealed with polyurethane.

In Ísafjörður, a small town in the northwest of Iceland, a local environmental officer, inspired by similar attempts in New Delhi, suggested the idea of painting a three-dimensional crosswalk.

The crosswalk, painted by road marking company Vegamálun GÍH, creates an optical illusion which is causing drivers to think that the zebra lines are objects such as boxes lying on the street. The innovative effort is treated as an experiment to test if a 3D zebra crossing can be an effective alternative to speed bumps. It is still too early to judge if the experiment will be a success though.

In Dun Laoghaire the «Festival of World Culture» took place from 21. to 24. of August 2008. Edgar Müller has followed the invitation and continued his series of large-sized 3D Street Art there. For this years Festival of World Cultures renowned German street painting artist Edgar Müller transformed a huge slice of the East Pier into a dramatic ice age scene. This project was supported by the Goethe Institution Germany.

This video shows how a living room can be transformed with a change of paint, and an inexpensive wood accent wall. The room goes from warmer beige and red tones, to the cooler, more contemporary gray tones, and it gets a cool, one-of-a-kind accent wall. Redwood bender board — which is normally used in landscaping — proves to be an excellent, and more affordable option for this project. It is cut at varying lengths, and stained with two different shades of stain, and then it is affixed to the wall using brad nails. Finally, new drapes and furnishings are brought in for a new eclectic look. See how it all comes together, and pick up on some things that were learned along the way, should you decide to take on a similar project.
